In this session, we will explore the diverse evaluation methods that can more holistically represent the experiences of students who have been marginalized. Two invited evaluators, one with expertise in Indigenous storytelling approaches and one with experience in quantitative student outcomes data, will discuss the trade-offs between qualitative storytelling and quantitative student progression metrics. Attendees will gain insights into how these complementary approaches can be used to capture a fuller picture of student success, beyond standard measures, especially when evaluating educational programs aimed at broadening participation. 


Through panel discussions, interactive segments, and real-world examples, participants will engage in conversations about merging these perspectives to improve the scope and impact of evaluations in education. This session promises a thought-provoking dialogue that will not only challenge conventional evaluation approaches but also empower participants with actionable ideas for their own work in fostering educational equity.
