We’re diving into one of the most powerful — yet often overlooked — drivers of student learning: executive function. These are the brain-based skills that help students plan, focus attention, remember instructions, manage emotions, and stay on task... and when they’re missing, we all feel it in the classroom. Think of executive function as the air traffic control system of the brain — and as teachers, you play a critical role in helping students develop these skills. In this professional development session, we’ll explore:
* What executive function actually is (and how it shows up in your classroom),
* Why some students struggle with it — and why that’s not just “laziness” or “defiance,”
* And most importantly: how you can teach and support these skills intentionally, just like reading or math.
You’ll walk away with practical tools, real-life strategies, and a deeper understanding of how to help your students not just keep up — but truly thrive. So let’s jump in, connect the brain to the behavior, and discover how strengthening executive function can transform learning — for your students and for you. Let’s get started!
